Abstract
Cold methods.-Rubber articles of a substantial thickness vulcanized through their entire mass are produced by a modification of the method of the parent Specification, which modification consists in using crepe rubber as commercially produced in thin sheets perforated by numerous holes. The sheets are placed loosely in a mould, soaked with a suitable vulcanizing fluid, e.g. 3 per cent chloride of sulphur and 97 per cent bisulphide of carbon, and pressed. In a modification of the invention, a thin sheet of crepe rubber impregnated with vulcanizing fluid may be used to join two sheets of material other than crepe rubber, the whole being pressed together without heat. p Known neutralizing agents such as magnesium carbonate &c. may be applied to the sheet before or during the application of the vulcanizing fluid.
