Abstract

346,490. Walls. THOMPSON, M. H., Garnett Bridge, near Kendal, Westmorland. Jan. 28, 1930, No. 2844. [Class 20 (iv).] Concrete walls are cast in situ between a permanent outer shell of slates 15 and a temporary shuttering 13. The slates are suspended on wires 9 stretched between metal uprights 10, and are backed with cement or plaster 16 to form the outer shell. The metal uprights consist of two pairs of angle-irons 10 spaced by wooden blocks 11 and bolts, and each pair encloses wooden laths 12. At a corner of a wall, a triangular concrete post is cast in situ by erecting wooden strips 5, 6, 7, and rods 8, and enclosing these in temporary shuttering secured to the strips 5, 6, 7. After removal of the shuttering, lead flashing is secured to the corner strip 7, the wires 9 are fastened to the laths 12, and the wall is completed as described above. Internal fittings may be secured to the inner laths 12. Where more than one storey occurs, the ground floor walls are made double, as shown in Fig. 9.
