Abstract

426,098. Hollow walls; slabs; casting in situ. NOFRANGO, Ltd., and WALLER, J. H. DE W., 1, South Frederick Street, Dublin. April 11, 1934, No. 10908. [Classes 20 (ii), 20 (iv), and 87 (i)] The outer and inner sections of a hollow wall are constructed separately in a horizontal position by securing a reinforcement to a rigid frame corresponding to the height of the wall from floor to ceiling, covering the reinforcement with concrete, screeding the concrete to the required thickness, and then, when the concrete has set, raising the two sections to the vertical position and placing them together with the two frames disposed within the cavity formed between the sections. Each rigid frame comprises vertical studs 6, and top and bottom rails 7, 8, as shown in Figs. 1. and 2, and the reinforcement may consist of a sheet 3 of hessian stretched tightly over the frame and secured thereto. A beading 9 is secured to the end studs 6 and bottom rail 8, and a batten 10 is secured to the top rail 7. The hessian may be first given a wet coating of concrete slurry whereby it is caused to shrink. Concrete is then poured over the impregnated hessian and levelled to the depth of the beading 9 and batten 10. The sections are then raised and placed back to back with the studs 6 in contact, as shown in Fig. 4, and such studs are secured together by spikes &c. The sections may also be secured together by the door and window frames fastened thereto. The inner section may be coated with plaster instead of with concrete, and if desired the inner surface of each skin may be given a coating of concrete. At a corner, a concrete post 12 may be cast between adjacent sections as shown in Fig. 6 by means of removable shuttering 14 secured to a temporary wooden upright 13 by wires, bolts, &c. 15. At intervals in a straight wall, a T-shaped concrete post 19 is cast as shown in Fig. 7, such post being cast in the space provided between the ends of adjacent sections, the deep stud 16 of the partition wall framing, and shuttering 18 carried from the latter by bolts or wires 17. If desired, the end studs 6 may be set back as shown in dotted lines in Figs. 6 and 7 so that the concrete 11 projects into the concrete posts. The concrete of the posts is made fairly dry or the ends of the wall elements which make contact with the posts are covered with a suitable substance to prevent union of the post with the wall. The framing between the two sections may be removed at the top and a girder of reinforced concrete may be cast in position so as to extend completely around the building. The girder may, alternatively be of wood. The studs 6 of opposite sections may be of equal or unequal thickness, and they may be of a thickness equal to, or less than, the thickness of the air space and arranged in staggered relation. The framing may also be of metal and covered with expanded metal &c., or other vegetable fabric instead of hessian. Specification 376,259 is referred to.
