Abstract

346,391. Tyre valves. CROWLEY, J. C., 2115, Hampstead Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, U.S.A. Jan. 4, 1930, No. 402. [Class 135.] A tyre valve comprising a main casing 1 secured to the inner tube and adapted to receive the end of alternative supplementary casings 10 containing the valve insides is provided with means to prevent the relative rotation of the two casings and with means to provide a fluidtight joint between the two parts. In the form shown in the Figure the end of the casing 10 has projections 14 adapted to engage slots or grooves in an enlarged part of the casing and is formed with a collar 13 adapted to be engaged by the securing nut 23. The nut 23 screws on the outside of a nut 24 which in turn screws on to the casing 1 to press the spreader 7 against the inner tube. A packing 18 is held between the end of the casing 10 and a flange 17 on a tubular member screwed into the bore of the member 10 is pressed into the bore of the casing 1. In a modification the end of the member 1 is formed with flats to engage projections formed by bending over parts of the top of the casing 1. In this form the securing nut has flanges arranged on each side of the collar 13 and is screwed on to the main casing to bear on the spreader. The part secured to the tube may be made of steel while the supplementary casing may be constructed of non-corrodible metal.
