Abstract

344,436. Paper-folding machines. COOK, T., Empire Works, Stalybridge, Cheshire. Oct. 3, 1929, No. 29946. [Class 100 (ii).] In paper-folding machines of the kind in which a reciprocating blade 5 presses the paper sheets between a fixed roller 4 and a spring-pressed roller 4a, the blade 5 can be adjusted angularly relatively to its supporting carriage according to the thickness of the sheet or sheets to be folded so as to engage centrally between the rollers 4, 4a. Each end of the blade 5 is carried by a bracket 6 pivoted at 7 to a carriage 8 reciprocating on guides 17. The upper end of the bracket 6 is engaged by adjusting screws 9, 9a and can be secured in any desired position by a clamping-screw 11 passing through a slotted hole 10. The blade 5 is fixed to blocks 12 carrying studs 14 which pass freely through lugs 15 on the brackets 6 and have adjusting nuts 14a on their free ends and springs 16 thereon interposed between the lugs 15 and the blocks 12 so that the blade 5 is resiliently mounted. Bolts 13 on the brackets 6 passing through slots 12a in the blocks 12 and blade 5 control the movement of the blocks permitted by the springs 16. The guides 17 are of square section and the carriages 8 are correspondingly formed but are provided with clearance to allow of endwise expansion of the blade 5.
