343,160. Gases containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE OBERHAUSEN AKT.- GES., Oberhausen, Rhineland, Germany. Nov. 15, 1929, No. 34993. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1928. [Class 55 (i).] A gaseous mixture containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen is obtained by passing water or water vapour through a bed of coke which is between the poles of a high-frequency generator so that luminous discharges take place in the coke. The content of carbon monoxide and hydrogen may be varied by varying the frequency and voltage of the current, and the rate of flow of the water or water vapour, the frequencies are above 50000 cycles per second and a voltage of over 30000 is used, the coke being heated by acting as a resistance to the current.
