Abstract
342,332. Containers for medical injections and dressings. WAITE, R. B., Springville, New York, U.S.A. Oct. 26, 1929, No. 32557. [Class 81 (ii).] A container for liquids to be administered by a hypodermic syringe, and of the kind in which the closure is formed by a plug of pliable material which is self-closing to punctures, is closed by a soft rubber or like plug resting on a right-angled shoulder formed within the neck of the container. The container may serve also for storing an antiseptic gauze strip which is withdrawn for use through a perforation in the plug. In the form shown in Fig. 2 the rubber plug 8, formed with a recess 9, rests on a shoulder 7 in the bottle neck. The top of the plug is flush with the neck of the bottle and is covered when not in use by a metal screw-cap 11 fitted with a cork disc 12. The plug is of such size as not to be highly compressed when in position. In a modification, Fig. 5, the recess 9 is arranged on the upper side of the plug so that when a withdrawn portion of the gauze strip 18 is cut off a protruding end remains in the recess to facilitate withdrawal of a further length. Fig. 6 shows a further modification in which an intermediate cap 13 of cellulose is placed between the bottle neck and the metal screw-cap 11 so as to assist in holding the plug 8 in place during withdrawal of a hypodermic needle after it has been passed through the plug. An aperture 14 is formed in the cellulose cap. A modified form of plug, Fig. 7, has a top flange 15 with central recess 16, and is extended at 17 below the shoulder 7 in the bottle neck.
