340,894. Soldering. MOND, A. L., 19, Southampton Buildings, London.- (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.; Frankforton-Main, Germany.) March 31, 1930, No. 10254. [Class 83 (iv).] In uniting magnesium and magnesium alloys, a film of a metal which forms a solid solution with magnesium, such as aluminium, zinc or cadmium, is inserted between the heated pieces of magnesium &c. and the parts then subjected to heavy pressure in a hydraulic press or rolling mill. The intermediate film, at the working temperature, viz. 350-450‹ C, breaks through the layer of oxide on the surfaces thereof by diffusion, and forms a semifused alloy with the magnesium.
