Abstract

Nickel and nickel alloys are deoxidized by the addition to the molten metal or alloy of lithium, which may be added as an alloy for example of 85 per cent of magnesium and 15 per cent of lithium. The amount of lithium added may be 0,001-0,1 per cent, and the addition may be preceded by treatment of the molten metal or alloy with manganese or zinc, and may be followed by treatment with magnesium.
