Abstract

339,775. Duncan, H. L. Nov. 28, 1929. Centrifugal governors.-The pinion 18 driving the cam and distributer shafts of an internalcombustion engine is mounted loosely on the crankshaft 11 and provided with pins 19 engaging forked arms 26 of governor weights 24 controlled by a coiled spring 27 which surrounds the shaft and has one end bearing upon the pivot of one of the weights and the other end upon a pin secured to the pinion 18. The weights are pivoted on pins 23 carried by a collar 20 fixed to the crank shaft. As the speed of the engine increases, the weights are thrown out against the action of the spring 27 and turn the pinion 18 so as to advance the valve and ignition timing.
