Bleaching oils, fats, waxes, and soaps.-Complex organic peroxides formed by treating mixtures of the acid chlorides of higher fatty acids and benzoyl chloride, chlorbenzoyl chloride, or bromobenzoyl chloride with peroxidizing agents are used as bleaching agents for soaps, oils. fats, and waxes. The fatty acid chlorides may be those .derived from caproic, lauric, or oleic acid, or any natural or artificial mixture of such acids, for example, the mixed fatty acids of cocoanut oil. Excess of the fatty acid chlorides is preferably employed in the reaction, so that the products contain simple fatty acid peroxides in addition to the complex peroxides. Solutions of these complex peroxides in animal, mineral, or vegetable, oils may be sprayed or otherwise disseminated throughout the material to be bleached. These complex peroxides are also stated to increase the bleaching power of other peroxides in admixture therewith.
