Abstract

336,865. Ramesohl &. Schmidt Akt.- Ges. Dec. 10, 1928, [Convention date]. Density and strainer separators combined.-A centrifugal machine for clarifying and purifying liquids has two or more concentric drums driven by a common shaft, and traversed in series from the inside towards the outside, by the liquid to be cleaned. The two drums 1, 4, shown, are mounted on the shaft 2 and are arranged inside the stationary casing 28 which supports a cover having chambers 26, 27 for the reception of the discharged liquids. The annular space between the drums contains a cylindrical wall 5 with tubes 19 adjustable relatively to the axis of the machine. This construction provides three chambers I, II, III, respectively inside the drum 4, between the wall 5 and the drum 1, and between the wall 5 and the drum 4. The chamber III contains a cylindrical filter 20; the chamber I contains vertical tubes 9, each having an inlet slot 10 in its lower half, and having in its upper end a screw plug 11 with a hole 11<1> bored eccentrically. The chamber I also contains a bell-shaped member 12, and the space between the bell and the wall of the drum 4 leads up to discharge passages 14 with screw plugs 15 having eccentrically placed holes 15<1>. The bell 12 carries a number of blades 12' which are inclined to the radius of the drum to assist the lighter materials to move towards the axis of the machine. Plugs 17 with eccentrically placed holes 17<1> are arranged in the base of the drum 4 to establish communication between the chambers I, II. The liquid to be cleaned passes from the chamber 25, through the slots 6 in the sleeve 3, to the chamber I in the drum 4 where the first separation occurs. The heavy part is thrown to the wall and passes up over the bell 12 to the passages 14 and holes 15<1>; the light part passes through the slots 10 into the tubes 9 and rises upwards to the holes 11'. The main stream, partly cleansed, passes through the holes 17<1> in the base, into the chamber II. The heavy part is deposited on the drum-1 and the light part passes through the passages 19 into the chamber III. Here the liquid passes inwards through the filter 20, in which the last impurities are retained, and then passes through the opening 21 to be thrown off the lip 24. It is collected in the chamber 27 from which it can be drawn off. The: degrees of separation can be varied by moving the passages 19 towards or away from the axis, and by rotating the plugs 11, 15, 17 with eccentrically placed holes.
