Abstract

336,696. Coatalen, L. Aug. 1, 1929. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Fluid - pressure. - In hydraulic brake mechanism the actuating lever or pedal for operating a master piston has a fulcrum which is slidable along the lever to vary the effective leverage as the pressure in the system or the movement of the pedal varies. The pedal 7 is pivoted at 6 to an arm 3 fixed to a shaft 4 supported in fixed bearings and carrying at its other end an arm 2 engaging the master piston 5 in a cylinder connected by pipe lines to the brakes. Pivoted on the shaft 4 is a forked link 8 embracing the pedal 7 and carrying a roller 9 which forms a fulcrum for the pedal, the position of which is varied by the fluid-pressure in the system, the link 8 being connected by a rod 10 to a piston 11 in a cylinder 12 communicating by a pipe line 13 with the pressure system. As the pressure increases the fulcrum 9 will be shifted nearer the pivot 6 increasing the leverage of the pedal. In a modification, the side of the pedal is so shaped where it engages the roller that as the pedal is depressed the roller is caused to move downwardly agaipst a spring, varying the leverage according to the movement of the pedal.
