Clutches and speed-varying mechanism.- Hydraulic variable-speed transmission mechanism, particularly applicable for driving supercharging blowers of internal-combustion engines, comprises two or more similar hydraulic clutches or variable speed gears arranged in parallel, and interconnected so that the power transmitted is equally divided between them. In the form shown, the clutches are of the gear-wheel type, are connected to the driving and driven shafts A, B by gearing D<2>, A<2> and F, B<2>, and have common supply and discharge pipes G<1>, H<1>. A control valve M may be operated manually or automatically, e.g. in accordance with barometric pressure, and a relief valve N is provided. The clutches may be of the revolving-cylinder type, or may be replaced by hydraulic variable-speed gears each comprising a pump and a motor, with the pumps delivering into a common chamber.
