335,016. Chalk, J. T. Aug. 10, 1929. Driving gear.-Pairs of cylinders are arranged, with their axes contained in a plane at rightangles to the crank shaft axis. Pistons C', C<2>, Fig. 1, have rods e<1>, e<2> connected to slippers J<1>, J<2> driving on to a crank pin l through links b<1>, b<2> and a common cross-head M and connecting rod L; the rod L is bifurcated or the links b<1>, b<2> and the slippers are duplicated. A strain rod d is placed between the two slippers. As applied to oppositely moving piston engines, the upper pistons drive through cross yokes n<1>, n<2>, Fig. 3, long rods g', q<2> and slippers, links, cross-heads N and connecting rods similar to those of the lower pistons. The crossheads &c. are in duplicate, working on each side of the crosshead &c. for the lower pistons, but the two crossheads N may be replaced by a single one, on which the crosshead M may slide.
