Closures completed by outstanding packing - rings. - Closures for jars, canisters, &c. comprise a cap b having an outwardly tapering or flared flange b<1> and a packing ring p, of circular cross section, of rubber &c. placed around and at or near the upper end of the jar etc.; application of the lid compresses the ring between the lid flange and the jar &c. by rolling contact. The flange of the cap may have a parallel portion above the flared portion.
