Abstract

333,017. Robinson, G. H. June 29, 1929. Pulverulent-fuel burners. - In a burner for burning pulverized coal or other powdered or finely divided fuel the fuel mixture is discharged through a plate, frame, or other member formed with a number of apertures c of circular, rectangular or other section arranged so as to direct the streams of mixture to converge towards a centre, centre-line, or central plane. The plate, frame, or other member a is preferably curved to a saucer-like or trough-like form and the centre or centres d<1> to which the streams converge are situate at a less distance from the member than the radius of curvature of the member, thus securing ignition.of any fuel which crosses the face of the burners without becoming ignited. The apertures c are preferably Venturi-shaped and may be so closely adjacent as to leave only knife edge between them. The apertures may be drilled in the plate a or be formed by shaped bars arranged in a frame.. In the trough-shaped burner shown in Fig. 7 a pivoted flap valve h may be turned into contact with division plates g so as to shut off the fuel supply to one or more divisions of the burner and a series of directing plates k is provided to prevent segregation of the fuel. Additional air may be supplied to the fuel mixture either before or after its passage through the plate &c.
