Cleaning separator discs.-The liner discs of a centrifugal separator are cleaned by a flow of liquid which only passes through part of the spaces between the discs at any one instant. With the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the ordinary feed pipe is removed and the pipe 2 for the conveyance of the washing fluid is inserted in the central space of the discs. This pipe 2 has small apertures 3, in order that the liquid can only enter a few of the spaces between the discs, so that the velocity of the fluid is high. The tube is axially movable. In a modification the tube has narrow vertical openings so that the liquid passes over a portion of each disc. In the form shown in Fig. 2, an annular tube 5 supplies washing fluid through the slot 6 at the periphery of the discs, and this is discharged through the ordinary discharge channels 7. In a further modification, the washing fluid is supplied to a hood 8, Fig. 3, from whence it flows to the pile of discs through the channels 7. A cylinder 10 with annular openings 11 confines the flow to a few spaces. In another modification, the fluid is supplied at the periphery of the discs to one or more of the sectors formed by the spacing ribs of the discs.
