Abstract

331,954. British Insulated Cables, Ltd., and Lord, H. H. April 23, 1929. Fusible cut-outs. - The porcelain holder 1 carrying a fuse-wire 2 in an asbestos &c. tube 6 has a relatively large divergent (preferably conical) expansion chamber 7 at each end so that the gaseous products pass away clear of the terminals 16 which with the fuse contacts 11 are mounted on the outside of the holder. The ends of the fuse-wire are led through metal bushes 10 to the terminals. End plates 17 of asbestos slate direct the gases laterally through narrow discharge openings 17<a>. The contacts 11 on the holder have extensions to which the terminals 16 are secured, and engage fixed contacts 4 bolted to the porcelain base 3. The metal box 26 may be lined with asbestos sheet.
