Abstract

331,943. Warr, J. April 19, 1929. Open :fireplaces; coking chambers; combined solid-fuel and gas stoves.-Coal is coked in a closed retort a forming part of or fitted to a firegrate, the evolved gases being burnt below the retort to assist in heating it. In the construction shown, the retort is provided with inlet and outlet openings, for the fresh and coked fuel, closed respectively by lids b, c. A flue d passes from the back of the grate below and behind the retort, and is provided with a damper j. The gases pass from the, retort by a pipe f to a nozzle g forming part of a burner h arranged below the retort. Rods g<1>, i<1> adjust respectively a pin valve in the nozzle g, and the height of the burner h relatively to the nozzle. More than one burner may be provided. An alternative form of retort has a single opening at the front for both charging and emptying purposes.
