331,826. Bowman, G., and Graham, E. April 8, 1929. Stands or supports.- Fluid - pressure jacks are adapted to serve also as shock-absorbers. A cylindrical casing 9 enclosing a spring-held ram is pivoted at 25 to the frame 1. It is formed with a valved plunger 10 adapted to slide in a cylinder 13 bolted at 27 to axle 26, the joints with the cylinder being made fluid tight by means of washers 16, 17 and glands 14, 15. The ram carries a foot 18 and is extended against the action of a spring 23 by fluid entering the casing 9 at 21. In a modified form, the plunger 10 is not used and the middle cylinder is secured to the axle, while the outermost is pivoted to the frame. One of these devices is located near each wheel.
