Visual outdoor signals.-A railway signal arm is formed with or situated in front of a reflector arranged to reflect direct light from the sky in the direction from which the signal is to be observed. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a mirrored glass 3 formed with recesses or projections 4 is Secured to the signal arm 1; the mirrored.glass may be ribbed or a plain glass covering a separate reflector may be used. The glass may be coloured and stencilled with any required design. A plane mirror suitably inclined may be used. A screen with differently coloured sectors 8, 9 is shown in Fig. 7 arranged in front of the signal arm 1 so that light of a colour corresponding to the signal position is transmitted. In Fig. 10 a reflector with different coloured sectors 11, 12 is situated behind the signal arm 1 which is sector-shaped to cover one sector so that the other sector transmits the appropriate colour. The signal arm may be provided with an opening moving in front of coloured reflecting sectors.
