Abstract

Powdered and granular resistances.-Powdered or granular resistance material d is contained in a cartridge consisting o f metal end plates b, b<1> connected by a flexible band a of non-conducting material, such as a strip of rubber-proofed canvas or linen having its ends vulcanized together. This band is secured to the end plates b, b<1> by wires c, each end plate consisting of two members clipped together, one having a flange so as to form a groove e 'which prevents displacement of the wires c. The cartridge is secured in a twopiece casing f, f<1> by means of a terminal screw g passing through the lower end plate b<1>, which is insulated from the casing f by insulating discs h. The upper end plate b is connected to the casing by a pig-tail connection o, a terminal p also being connected to the casing. The upper end plate b is provided with a key-hole slot j which detachably engages a groove in a screwed spindle k passing through a screwed sleeve l provided with an insulating knob m, by rotating which the compression of the material d may be varied.
