April 6, 1929, Folding paper.-In a buckling-folder unit for paper or like sheets comprising folding-rolls 12, 14, 19 .and a buckling-plate, 30, the plate 30 and the roll 19 can be set in either of two positions so that the unit can be used for folding a sheet alternatively in opposite directions. The plate 30 can be fixed to either of two seatings 28, 29 which are disposed symmetrically with respect to the rolls 12, 14 on the main frame 10. In order that the roll 19 may be positioned either beneath the roll 12 or the roll 14 according to the position of the plate 30 it is carried by brackets 20 pivoted at 21 on the frame 10. Two bosses 22, 23 are formed on the brackets 20 and, in the position shown, a spring 24,adjusted by a set-screw 25 passing through a tapped hole 26<x> in a fixed block 26 bears against the boss 23 so as to keep the roll 19 in position but capable of adjusting itself to various thicknesses of work. A second hole 26<x> is provided in the block 26 for accommodating the set-screw 25 when the brackets 20 are swung over to their other position with the spring 24 bearing on the boss 22. The roll 14 is carried by sliding- blocks 15 adjusted by threaded rods 15<a> and nuts 18 and pressed towards the roll 12 by springs 16. The sheet may be given an initial fold by a knife 32 co-operating with the rolls 12, 14 or by a, buckling-folder unit of which the rolls 12, 14 form part.
