Abstract

330,226. Tocco, L. Nov. 7, 1928, [Convention date]. Radiations, facilitating chemical reactions by; gases and vapours, treating electrically.-Reactions between gas or liquids and liquids or solids are accelerated by subjecting the substances to the action of an electric field produced by an alternating current of a voltage of 25000-150000, a frequency of 25-500 periods, and an intensity of a fraction of an ampere. The conditions must be such as to avoid electrolysis. According to examples (1) sulphuric acid is obtained by passing sulphur dioxide and air into a chamber which is connected to one pole of the source of current while the supply pipes of the gases are connected to the other pole; (2) sulphate of ammonia is obtained by passing a solution of ammonium carbonate containing calcium sulphate in suspension through a series of superimposed funnels alternate members of which are connected to each pole of the alternator. Specifications 2260/13 and 254,375 are referred to.
