Abstract

329,663. Ricardo, H. R. Feb. 18, 1929. Fixed-abutment type; discharge and suction passages for pumps and blowers.-Rotary blowers, pumps, or engines, with pivoted or sliding vanes on a rotor mounted eccentrically within a rotatable drum, have one or both end plates fixed and ported and provided with an unbroken circumferential edge engaging an extension of the drum of the same diameter as the main portion. With one fixed plate, Figs. 1, 2, the rotor shaft F passes through this plate A<1> while the drum B is carried by the other plate B<1>. The vanes are lubricated by oil passing through a pipe N, shaft F and passages N<1> to the vane bearings; oil collecting in the drum passes out through labyrinth packing A<2> into a collecting-chamber 0. The plate A<1> has inlet and outlet ports A<3>, A4. The overlapping vanes E have inturned ends El and are pivoted to the rotor D by divided edges secured by fusible metal within tubular bearing sleeves D<2> mounted in cylindrical sockets within the rotor. With two fixed plates H, Fig. 3, the drum G is supported by rollers J mounted on the plates H or other fixed part of the casing, the rollers engaging rings K secured to the drum. The ports in the plates H are connected to common inlet and outlet chambers L.
