Abstract

329,442. Chapman, A. W. March 23, 1929. Sliding and extensible seats.-A seat for vehicles which slides on rails and has means for disengaging it from them by a lateral movement has affixed to it sectioned slides 3, Fig. 2, which engage with rails 5 mounted on the floor of the vehicle, one of the slides having adjacent to its non-hooked edge a retaining bar 17, Fig. 4, provided with inclined slots 18 which engage with studs 19 fixed to the chair 2 so that by a longitudinal movement it will be advanced toward or removed from the rail and a catch is provided to hold it in the advanced position. When the retaining bar is moved to the removed position the seat can be detached by Ó lateral movement. The retaining bar may be hinged and swung into the locking position or be in the form of a movable bolt. In a modified form shown in Fig. 5 the slides 30, 3 are of C-section for part of their length and J section for the rest; to disengage the seat it must be moved forward until the C- sections clears the rails and then laterally.
