Abstract

327,850. Robinson, J., and Bentley, W. E. April 2, 1929. Stop-motions. - A stopmotion for a gill-box or other preparing machine operating on slivers is characterized in that each sliver s, Fig. 1, as it leaves the machine is passed beneath, or over, and normally supports, an indicator h loosely mounted on a pivoted rod e, the indicators having pins h<1>, Fig. 2, adapted on downward rotation of the detector due to breakage or slackening of a sliver to engage a pin i on the rod e and thereby to force the wedge end of an arm e<1> on the rod e between two meshing gears f, g, and thus stop the machine. A stop j is provided, on the wedge end of the arm e<1> to limit the penetration. The stopmotion is also adapted to act on breakage of a sliver at the feed end of the machine each sliver supporting a looped detector o which, on breakage, drops and tips a pivoted frame p whereby a shoulder k<1> in a wire k is released from a stop m and an arm e<2> on the rod e permitted to fall. If the slivers are delivered to a spindle the detector h<2> is arranged as shown in Fig. 5, while in a drawing or finishing box the rod e is provided with an end finger e<3>, Fig. 6, adapted to engage the member t and force the end t<1> between the gears u, v. The pinion v is, mounted on the extension w<1> of a spring w. When the member t<1> is forced between the gears u, the latter is moved and the spring w released from its notch w<2>, the machine then being stopped. Breakage of a sliver at the feed end of the machine, may also be arranged to actuate the stop-motion, the broken end extending rearwardly from the machine being adapted to fall upon, and by its forward movement to rock a suspended rod, thereby actuating the stopmotion.
