Abstract
327,517. Decca Gramophone Co., Ltd., and Cozens, G. A. Feb. 20, 1929. Brakes.-Consists in improvements in automatic gramophone brakes of the kind in which a spring-actuated brake lever is controlled by a latch which is moved, to release the brake, when a member moving with the tone-arm reaches a predetermined position and engages a setting device, the setting member being normally clutched to the latch, but released therefrom by depressing a lever during the operation of resetting the mechanism. The setting member is a lever 16, which is adapted to be engaged directly by a projection, such as a pin 8 on an arm 9, moving with the tone-arm 10. A brake lever 1 is held away from contact with the turntable 3 when a latch 13 engages with a tooth on the brake lever, the tooth being provided by a hardened steel block. The latch 13 and the setting lever 16 are mounted on a common pivot pin 19, with a friction washer 22, Fig. 4, inserted between them. A plate 23 is also freely mounted on the same pin, and carries a blade spring 24 which normally presses the parts 16, 22, 13 together so that the latch and the setting lever are frictionally coupled. A lever 17 is adapted to raise the spring 24 when a press-button 26 on the lever is depressed. The operation of setting the brake is as follows : An initial outward movement of the tone-arm causes a lever 6, engaged by the pin 8, to rock, so that a spring- controlled pawl 11 carried thereby engages a tooth 5 on the brake lever 1 and moves the latter to the " off " position, where it is held by the latch 13. The tone-arm is then moved inwardly until the needle is at the finishing position on the record to be played, and the button 26 is depressed. This frees the lever 16, which is pulled by a spring 12 into contact with the pin 8, whereupon the button 26 is released, leaving the parts 16, 13 clutched together in the appropriate position. Provision for adjusting the brake lever 1 is made by mounting it on a pivot pin 31 by means of an eccentric boss 30, Fig. 5, the flange 29 of which is clamped by a screw 33.
