Returning sound-box to starting point; brakes, arrangement and disposition of.-Mechanism for returning the sound-box to the starting position, and applying a brake to the turntable, comprises a rod 26 depending from the tone-arm and a hinged plate 24 engaging the rod and adapted to be raised by spring and lever mechanism when the tone arm reaches a predetermined position, the tone arm being thereby raised and then turned as the rod slides down the inclined plate. A brake 14, adapted to engage the underside of the turntable, is carried by the lever mechanism. As shown, the lever mechanism comprises a first lever 10 pivoted on a bracket 11 and having a lateral arm 13 carrying the brake, and a second lever 16, pivoted on a plate 18, engaging the end of the first lever, and having at its free end a vertical push rod 21 engaging the underside of the hinged plate. A spring 20 acting on the lever 16 tends to raise the plate 24, which is held down by a catch comprising a pivoted spring-controlled pillar 28, Fig. 4, having a projecting button 30 engaging the top of the plate. Stiffly mounted at the top of the pillar is a lever 32 having a lateral projecting arm 33 adapted to be engaged by the depending rod 26 on the tone arm to release the catch. The point at which this release takes place can be adjusted by turning the stiffly mounted lever 32 which carries an indicating arm 34 co-operating with a scale 37. A push-button 12 is provided on the lever 10 for releasing the brake and resetting the mechanism.
