Cylinders, arrangement of ports and igniters in, and combustion chambers of.-In an overhead valve engine, the igniters are arranged, on the side of each exhaust port, remote from the cylinder axis. In Fig. 4 the exhaust port 6 is formed in a pocket 3 and the sparking-plug socket 8 may be arranged as shown, or in the plane of the section; the inlet valve, seating on the port 7, may slope away from the cylinder axis to form a more rounded combustion chamber. As seen in Fig. 8, the two ports are behind one another, and overlap, partly or entirely, the cylinder bore; they may overlap the bore on both sides, Fig. 10, or be formed in a sloping roof. Two inlet and two exhaust ports may be provided for each cylinder, the exhaust ports 6 being arranged adjacent, and in a raised portion of the roof, as shown in Fig. 13, and each have a sparking plug socket 8 arranged as described above.
