Abstract

326,038. Philipsen, M. March 23, 1929. Thermometers.-A clinical thermometer is provided with an oblong mercury bulb 6 to which is attached a rounded glass body 8 coaxial therewith for the purpose of facilitating the introduction and retention of the thermometer within a cavity of the body. A glass cylinder 1 contains a metallic scale 3 to which a capillary tube 2 is attached by lugs 4. The lower end of the tube is condensed at 5 and is connected to a hollow bulb 6 to which the rounded glass body 8 is attached. A glass pin 7 is attached to the bottom of the bulb 6 and extends into the part 5 of the tube to constrict the mercury column so that it is retained in the capillary tube while the temperature is being read. In a modification the capillary tube is formed in a body having a triangular cross section.
