Abstract

325,002. Barnes, L, J. Nov. 9, 1928. Planes and the like, construction of; propelling. - Air currents of greater velocity that those due to the velocity of the aeroplane are produced in air passages in aeroplane wings of the e kind described in Specification 319,902 by the motor exhaust or by the propeller, or by these in combination, to stabilize the aeroplane and to facilitate, its flight. As shown, the exhaust pipe 15 from the motor leads to a transverse trunk 4, with which the open ends of the passages 3, into which the wings 1 are divided by the horizontal partitions 2, communicate, the pipe 15 ending in a nozzle 17 which co-operates with a conical cap 18. Doors 7, 8, operated by hand levers 9, 11, respectively, regulate the size of openings 5, beneath the front edge 6 of the wing, to control the admission of air. Air trunks 20, disposed along the sides of the fuselage 21 and having flared openings 22 conduct air currents produced in them by the velocity of the plane to an air trunk which extends across the front of the wings and in communication with the passages 3. A collector scoop 25 disposed behind the propeller 26 defects air passing through the top of the propeller into the air trunks 20.
