Abstract

304,973. Albert, E. F. May 8, 1928. Planes construction of; steering and balancing. -A thick wing for aircraft has inclined channels 10 extending rearwardly from the lower to the upper surface, and the passage of air therethrough may be controlled by flaps 8, sliding plates or butterfly valves at either end of or in the channels or by flaps normally flush with the upper surface of the wing. The channels may be straight or curved and are formed between longitudinal members of the wing. There may be several rows of channels with their openings parallel to the leading edge of the wind. The lateral stability of the machine is controlled by differential actuation of the flaps 8 which are separately controlled.
