Coal-cutting machines.-A coalcutting machine for removing coal directly from thin seams comprises a rotary cutter member slightly less in diameter than the thickness of the seam and built up of helically flanged sections A carrying cutters a<2> and threaded on to stepped portions b of a shaft B on which they are secured between a flange b<1> and a washer b<3>. The shaft B is inserted into either end of a hollow shaft C in which it is held by a cap c'. The cutting shaft and shaft C are driven from a motor G through gearing f<1>, f, e<2>, e', e, E and a slidable clutch sleeve D controlled by a handle d<3>; the feed drum J is driven through gearing h, h<1>, eccentric H, links h<3>, h<5>, h<7>, h<8>, and suitable gearing.
