Projectiles. - Relates to projectiles for use against aircraft and containing a parachute in a chamber 13 behind a chamber containing a cable 6, the cable and parachute being expelled by a charge 25 when this is ignited by a time fuze screwed to the nose of the projectile, after which the cable extends and is supported in the air by the parachute According to the invention, (1) the cable 6 is repeatedly folded upon itself longitudinally to form a bundle from which the ends emerge axially, the front end being fastened to the base of the charge casing 3 and the other end being fastened to a bolt 9 to which are attached the eyes 12 of the parachute; (2) the charge casing 3 has flexible walls 29 which prevent leakage of the gases of explosion of the charge 25; and (3) the base plug 15. which is conical and extends to within the driving band 18 to strengthen the shell there, is fitted with a disc 30 pivoted laterally at 31, so that when the base plug is expelled the disc 30 swings out by centrifugal force, and causes the base plug to be displaced laterally out of the way of the parachute. The weight of the pivot pin 31 is balanced by a plug 32 of heavier material at the opposite end of the disc. The expelling pressure is transmitted from the charge casing 3 to the base plug 15 by split cylinders 7, 14 embracing the cable and parachute respectively, and separated by a split disc 8, through which the bolt 9 passes. The base piece is normally held in place by shear pins 17 of copper.
