Seaweed, treating.-Salts (including organically held iodine) fats, and pigments are extracted from seaweed by a homogeneous water-organic solvent mixture at a high temperature and pressure. The extraction is carried out in an incompletely filled vessel which rotates on a horizontal axis. Examples of solvent mixtures are ethyl alcohol and water, and ethyl alcohol, acetone and water.
