Abstract

By addition of alkali or alkaline earth hydroxide the water of open-air baths is brought to and maintained at an alkali content which is adequate to bind the free carbon dioxide present and to convert the bicarbonates into mono-carbonates but which is below that which is perceptibly irritant to bathers. A small quantity of free chlorine may also be introduced into the water. The treatment is stated to prevent the development of algae.
