Coating materials in long lengths.- Waterproofing material, such as paraffin, resin or asphalt dispersed in water by means of clay, is applied to a sheet by a perforated roller. The roller 40 may be formed by wrapping wire cloth 44 round strips 43 secured in grooves in a cylinder 41. The roller 40 is contained in a tank 28, having partitions 47a through packed openings in which the shaft 45 of the roller passes, to rotate in bearings 46 in the end wall 47. The treating liquid passes to the tank 28 from a supply tank A fitted with straining devices 5, 17 and an overflow 13 to maintain a constant liquid level in the tank. The rate of outflow of the liquid is regulated by means of a slide 22, placed in front of its outlet 21 and having a hole of the required size. To allow of the slide being changed without opening the outlet 21 fully two guides are provided so that a second slide 22a can be inserted without disturbing the slide 22, which is then removed. The liquid enters the tank 28 through a separate compartment 29 into which the supply pipe 27 opens, Tha liquid may be supplied to the tank A at excess concentration and automatically diluted to the right strength by water introduced through a venturi arrangement.
