Abstract

Gas exits.-A gas exit is provided with a porous or filtering medium to arrest liquid, a space being left above the porous substance and below the exit to the atmosphere. Fig. 1 shows a gas exit with a space s above the porous substance b. A porous plate d may also be, provided, and the outlet may be in the form of a capillary opening c<1> or a tube depending into the chamber of the device. The lower end of the latter is provided with openings k. Fig. 6 shows another form in which the inner chamber is surrounded by an outer chamber provided with two small openings l for the entry of gas and escape of liquid. The hole k in the inner chamber is so arranged that it is above the level of any liquid which may remain in the outer chamber in all positions of the battery. Fig. 11 shows a further modification with additional porous substances b, d.
