Check hinged valves. - An automatically operating circular or rectangular closure for sewers, milk pipes, rubbish boxes and tubes, &c. for preventing the passage of mosquitos, mice, &c., comprises a hollow frame A, a counterweighted hinged lid or flap B, and a hollow boxlike structure C open at the bottom and closed at the top. It may be used under the gratings of traps. The frame A has inwardly and outwardly projecting flanges at the top, and its inner face is curved to correspond with the path of the edge of flap B. It is provided with a boss to limit the movement of the flap B. The latter is mounted on trunnions on the frame A, the part beyond the trunnions being weighted and operating beneath the cover C, which is bolted to the frame A.
