Hydrovanes, arrangement of. - Seaplane floats are fitted with hydrovanes arranged in inverted V - formation, the machine being supported on the vane tips when taking off. To provide transverse stability when fully immersed the vanes may be fitted with hinged sections similar to ailerons. To give longitudinal stability, pairs of vanes may be arranged fore and aft and be fitted with hinged flaps. Where a low axial propeller is fitted, an auxiliary marine propeller is used to raise the float sufficiently out of the water to enable the aerial propeller to be started up. Longitudinal penetration fins g may be provided on the vane tips. The vanes may be hinged about longitudinal axes so that they can be raised and lowered.
