Piston-packing. - The periphery C' of a split ring in expanded state comprises an arc AB. equal in length to half the circumference of the cylinder bore C, and having a radius R', greater than the radius R of the cylinder bore, while the radius of the terminal arcs AD, BE is the same as that of the cylinder bore. The rings are cut from a cylindrical blank which has been machined to the desired profile from a template in a copying machine.
