Abstract
314,893. Huwyler, A., (Assignee of Salis, R. von). July 4, 1928, [Convention date]. Conduits and casings; electric cables insulated by high pressure gas; insulators. - A high tension electric cable comprises a conductor 1 mounted in a thick-walled sectional tube 2 of steel or duraluminium which is filled with carbon dioxide or a chemically inert gas under pressure. The conductor 1 is held insulated from the walls by porcelain blocks 3. The tube sections are secured together by flanges 4 which are packed. At the tube mouth, a plug 6 on the conductor 1 fits tightly in the bore of a large insulator 5 through which the conductor passes, the insulator being secured by flanges 8 to the tube 2. In order to prevent creeping discharge over the insulator surface inside the tube, corrugations 7 are formed on the insulator and on the blocks 3, as shown. In the modified construction shown in Fig. 2, the copper cable 1 passes through a lead or rubber tube 2 and is held from the tube walls by insulating blocks 3. Several conductors may be mounted in one tube 2, being insulated from each other and the walls by blocks 3. Specification 1944/06 is referred to.
