Feb. 23, 1932, No. 5413. Convention date, Feb. 24, 1931. [Class 38 (v).] A self-contained connector for high-tension metal clad switchgear comprises a conductor 7 enclosed in and insulated from a metal sheathing 1 containing insulating oil 19, and insulating bushings 9, 10 connected and hermetically sealed to the ends of the sheathing and conductor, with means 21 communicating with the sheathing for maintaining the supply of oil 19. The sheathing 1 is flanged at its ends for attachment to removable plates 17, 18 on switchgear casings 2, 3, and the insulator 9 is rigidly mounted at 9<1> to the sheathing 1, and suitably sealed to the conductor 7 which extends through the insulator 9 and is connected to a flexible lead 11. The insulator 10 is sealed to the conductor 7 by a cap 16 through which the conductor extends to be connected to a flexible lead 12. The insulator 10 is also cemented to a sleeve 15 attached to a bellows 13 which is welded at its other end to the sheathing 1, so that relative movement of the casings 2, 3 may take place. A pipe 21 leads from the sheathing 1 to a reservoir 20 which has means 21<1> for compensating variation of oil pressure with temperature. In Fig. 2, the connector comprises a lead covered cable 22 supported at 25 on an adjustable cross bar 26. Conical sleeves 31 are in wiped joint connection 34 with the sheathing and are cemented to insulators 23, 24 sealed to the cable conductor. The sleeves 31 have flanges for attachment to the casings 33. Pipes 29, 30 lead from a reservoir 20 to the ends of the connector, and the cable 22 sags between the supports 25. The cable 22 comprises conductors 36, Fig. 4, surrounded by oil impregnated paper 37, and spiral grooves 39 are provided on the interior of the sheathing 38. The oil and insulation are treated to remove moisture and gases.
