Abstract

314,848. Schmidt, K., and Kreis, F. April 3, 1928. Divided on 314,841. Sweeping-machines.-A hollow rotary brush 56, used mainly for sweeping road gutters, has an interior spring-pressed wheel 90 running on the ground and serving, through gearing such as 92, 93, to rotate the brush around the running-wheel. The brush is in sections 94, Fig. 3, insertable laterally in the stock and retained by springs 96, the sections being also displaceable in vertical guides against the action of springs 97. The brush is manipulated by a lever 57. Fig. 1, mounted on a pivot 64 on a shaft 62. Side move - ment of the lever produces a rotation of the shaft 62 which, through a link 69, displaces the brush frame 70 laterally to and from the gutters on guide-shafts 71, 72. Movement of the lever about the pivot 64 causes a rotation of the shaft 72 and, through oppositely-threaded members 75 and lazy-tongs 78, raises or lowers the brush in guides 80 on the frame 70.
