Abstract

311,643. Held, G. Nov. 16, 1928. Regulating delivery by opening suction valves. -A two-stroke internal-combustion engine working with injection of liquid fuel is converted into a four-stroke engine at low speeds by electromagnetic control of the suction valve of the fuel pump. The invention may also be applied to four-stroke and six-stroke cycle engines. A fuel pump 3 with delivery valve 8 has the suction valve 5 made of magnetic metal so that it is attracted by the core 9 of an electromagnet 11 when this is energized, whereupon the fuel is bypassed back to the tank. The circuit of the electromagnet is provided with a switch 15, and with a circuit breaker comprising a contact 20 rotated at half engine speed under a brush 21. When the switch 15 is on the contact 16, the magnet is not energized, and the engine works on its normal cycle. With the switch on contact 18, the magnet is continuously energized and the valve 5 is kept raised, so that the engine stops. If the switch 15 is placed in the position 17, the magnet is energized only as the contact 20 touches the brush 21, so that each alternate fuel injection is suppressed.
