Abstract

311,566. Needham, W. May 21, 1928. Road surface boxes. -Hinged gully, manhole, hydrant, and like covers p are provided near the hinge b with recesses f having one side f<1> of arcuate form and the other side inclined, the recesses engaging complemental projections h on the frame m to provide a support independent of the hinge and to prevent rocking. Additional recesses q with inclined faces may be provided along the sides and front of the cover to engage complemental projections on the frame. In each case, the recesses may be provided in the frame and the projections on the cover. Fig. 7 shows the invention applied to a gully cover y having an integral inclined grating y', the front edge of which is supported in a V-shaped groove x<1> in the frame x.
