Abstract

311,429. Prosperity Co., Inc., (Assignees of Davis, E.). May 12, 1928, [Convention date]. Safety devices requiring both hands of operator to be occupied in starting vnaahircery.-Relates to means for controlling the initial and final closing and opening movements of garment presses. Initial closing of the press is effected by upward movement of the piston 18 within a cylinder 16 and heavy pressure is applied by downward movement of a piston 19 within a cylinder 17. Supply of compressed air from a pipe 50 to the cylinder 16 is controlled by depression of a pedal 38 to close a normally open exhaust valve 43 and open a normally closed inlet valve 44, which may be held open by fluid pressure. The supply of compressed air to the. cylinder 17 is opened by the simultaneous depression of spaced push buttons 51, 63 which, through levers 52, 53 and 64, 65 close exhaust valves 55, 67 respectively. Valve 57 is opened simultaneously. After the piston 19 has descended sufficiently to uncover a port 80, diaphragms 72, 73 in chambers 70, 71 are subjected to pressure through pipes 76, 77, 78 to operate plungers 74, 75 to hold the exhaust valves 55, 67 closed and the inlet valve 57 open. The bottom of the cylinder 16 may be connected to the top of the cylinder 17 by a pipe in which a non-return valve is provided so that, on depression of the buttons 51, 63, the fluid pressure is ineffective, on the piston 19 unless the pedal 38 has been or is simultaneously depressed,
