Abstract

311,138. Hutto, M. C. June 29, 1928. Rotating-tool apparatus; tools.-In a cylinder grinder consisting of abrading-members 12 adjustable radially of a body 5 by cones 6, 7 acting on pins 3, 4 riveted to the holders 1 of the abrading-members, the holders consist of channel-section metal stampings having a base 1<a> and sides 1<b>, and the member 12 is secured therein by solder or other self-hardening material 13a. In order that the operative face 12<a> cf the member 12 may be at right-angles to the axes of the pins 3, 4 and at the correct distance from the axis of the body 5, the holder and the member 12 are placed in a mould in engagement with gauge faces thereof and molten solder &c. is poured in through an opening 11<a> in the base 1<a>. The cones 6, 7 are carried by a screw 9 and are pressed apart by a spring 9<b>, the pins on the abrading-members being held against the cones by spring members 9<a>, 10<a> engaging lugs on the holders. In operation, the tool is rotated and reciprocated in the cylinder, the mounting of the cones &c. allowing the members 12 to adjust themselves to the cylinder, and finally to assume a correct position parallel to the axis.
